A Rival Design for the Tiger I

The VK 45.01 (P) was Porsche’s entry in the competition to develop a new German heavy tank armed with an 88mm gun. It competed against the Henschel VK 45.01 design in 1942, but problems with its unconventional engine and drivetrain prevented it from entering production as the Tiger tank. The Henschel design was selected instead and developed into the Tiger I, while most completed Porsche chassis were later used to build Ferdinand tank destroyers.
