A Modern Main Battle Tank

Developed for the West German Army during the 1970s, the Leopard 2 entered service in 1979 as the successor to the Leopard 1. Its combination of firepower, mobility, and protection led to widespread international adoption, while successive variants have continued to modernize the design. The Leopard 2 family is armed with a 120mm smoothbore main gun.
